What is the control in a science project experiment?

Okay so my science fair project topic is:

Make two batches of lollipops and find out the difference in baking one with corn syrup and one without.

What is a control? Please brake it up. What is the control of my experiment?!?!

The defenition in my packet is:

CONTROL:The control group has no variables added. You use this information to compare your results with.

I have NO IDEA what they mean by that?!?! THIS PART IS DUE TOMORROW. HELP!!!

Thanks,

The term control variable has different meanings, depending on the area in which it is used.

In the design of experiments and data analysis, control variables are those variables that are not changed throughout the trials in an experiment because the experimenter is not interested in the effect of that variable being changed for that particular experiment. In other words, control variables are extraneous factors, possibly affecting the experiment, that are kept constant so as to minimize their effects on the outcome. An example of a control variable in an experiment might be keeping the pressure constant in an experiment designed to test the effects of temperature on bacterial growth. What is the control in a science project experiment?
the control is the one with no added syrup in your experiment
